We were delighted that our summer concert this year was part of the 400th anniversary celebrations marking Banbury being awarded the Town Charter in 1608. A highlight of the concert was the premier of a piece especially commissioned for the concert to celebrate the charter anniversary and written by local composer Nick Planas.

The evening was hosted by Ann Bonner, Mayor of Banbury 2008-2009.

The second half of the concert included favourites from the “Last Night of the Proms”

The programme included:

• Beethoven Egmont Overture
• Sibelius Finlandia
• Bizet Carmen Suite (excerpts)
• Grieg Peer Gynt Suite (excerpts)
Planas - Banbury 400
• Sullivan Pineapple Poll arr Mackerras (excerpts)
• Elgar Pomp and Circumstance op 39 no 1
• Woods Fantasia British Sea Songs
• Parry Jerusalem
• Arne Rule Britannia
• Elgar Nimrod (Enigma Variations)
• Walton Crown Imperial
